So many questions to ask, I hope I remember them all. Nice review of Lion. I was planning on getting it, but was holding off to see what some of the reviews said. What type of computer do you have? Mines a 24″ iMac, I got it planning on doing more with video and photo editing and now I’m hoping to do some podcasting with it. From watching your review, is that a Blue Yeti microphone that you use? Also what software did you use to do the recording, screen capturing and lower 3rds? About the only thing I’m really caught up on before doing my podcast is how to record 2 webcams at the same time. I’ll probably just start out with 2 people, 2 microphones and 1 camera until I figure it out.
Sorry to throw so much at you at one time… Do you have any experience with Final Cut Pro? All the reviews have been so bad, but with the new version being an upgrade from iMovie for me, I wouldn’t really have a problem with it not being able to open old projects. And I probably wouldn’t even know how to use some of the other stuff they cut out. My main concern, again, is combining 2 video angles/cameras into 1 video. Then later to do some production stuff like adding intro’s and lower 3rds like Leo does.
Watching the TWIT at the new studio today? I’ve had it on in the background waiting while my computers updating to Lion.
Glad you liked it! I use a 13″ Macbook and it acutally holds up pretty well for all the video stuff I do. I use iMovie to piece together and add all my lower thirds which works well but I am not able to do one recording and switch from the camera to my screenshot. I have to do the screen capture and the video of me seperate and then piece them together. I record all the screen captures with QuickTime. Yes, you nailed it that is a Blue Yeti microphone and I couldn’t be happier with it! It has some great settings for all types of recording.
I have also been wanting to know how to record from two different camera angles and have not put the time in to find out how to do so. If you learn how let me know! I have enjoyed my limited experience with Final Cut Pro and find it to be a natural step up from iMovie. I have not played around with the new one however my friend uses it everyday for his job and he says that 95% of people who use it do not use the feautures they cut out. It offeres some great features that iMovie falls short on. That being said I still use iMovie for all my editing.
I was actually driving back from KC to Omaha when they were brodcasting so I didn’t get to watch the unveiling of the new studio. I am definitely going to go back and watch it today though. Let me know how the podcasting thing goes for you. I am just starting out with mine so I’m looking for advice and ideas!
I did some more research after I sent that messge and came accross a program called BoinxTV. The Pro version is $500, but I realized a had a copy of a SE version I bought with a MacHeist package a couple years ago. I forgot I even had it. I got to playing with it a little and it’s exactly what I’m looking for, but there’s a lot more controls than I thought there would be. I’m going to order one of those mics and start playing with it. I’ll let you know if I ever make a podcast. I’m thinking that BoinxTV program will get me by without wanting FCPX for a while, but I may change my mind later.
Think the iLife ’11 programs are worth updating from ’09?
The podcast was pretty good. They did a little parade from the old studio to the new one and gave a quick tour. It will be pretty nice. I’ll have to start watching a couple of the podcasts on video now.
It doesn’t look like the Home version does multiple camera angles.
