Kenny Kessler I’ve been meaning to tell you, I picked up a Droid Maxx. I’ve been really happy with it. Eric Johnson and I were talking about the Moto X today and it reminded me.

The new one or last years?
New one, I really like it.
Hope you like it out of curiosity did you buy it at a store or online?
Verizon Corporate Store. I wish the camera was a little better, but I can live with that.
Was the wireless charger pushed on you? If so which one and did you buy it? Sorry for all the questions try to see how our retail is going
Its no provlem. No, he didn’t mention it. In his defense, I work with him a lot and he doesn’t even try to upsell me stuff. I picked up an Anker Qi charger on Amazon.
Haven’t ever tested with that one. Let me know how it goes. If there are problems we can look into it deeper. Any reason you bought that one?
This is probably going to be long sorry about that.
Having come from a background of HTC and Motorola devices I was waiting for the HTC 1 and Moto X to come out on Verizon to decide when i held them in person. My most recent devices were a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, both Nexus 7’s and a motorola Xoom. And I had rooted everything and been running a pretty Vanilla versions of Android. So I had been waiting for the Moto X as soon as Google and Motorola started working together. I was waiting for the device that they both had a major influence on.
The day the Moto X came out on AT&T I checked it out and then played with the HTC 1 and Moto Maxx at verizon. I looked at the GS4 and Note 2, but I’m not a big fan of Touchwiz. Same goes for HTC Sense, but I kinda liked the 1’s design and camera. I knew that the Maxx was basically a bigger Moto X with more features and I couldn’t get a customized X, so when i played with the Maxx and realized I didn’t mind the lower res screen and processor I decided to go with the Maxx. The bigger screen, battery, wireless charging, vanilla android and new software features were enough. I didn’t mind the big boxy, thick form factor. I was actually really impressed with how it felt in the hand, especially compared to the Ultra. I thought the back of the ultra felt kinda cheap compared to the Maxx. Now I like how it looks, its a little big with the bumper case so I don’t use it most of the time.
It wasn’t until after I got it that I realized how much i liked the Active notifications, the camera flick to open and the camera software. I also like how you can tie to trusted bluetooth devices. I do that with my home and work computers and my car. The GNex had on screen buttons and I thought it kinda wasted screen space. I kept hitting home instead of space, so I didn’t mind the Maxx’s buttons are off the screen compared to the moto x. The “OK Google Now” thing is neat to show off and it does well turning on when I want it, but I don’t usually get the answer I’m looking for and its a pain to have to do my pattern code when i’m not on a trusted bluetooth network so I don’t use it a lot. I’ve tried the Assistly app that can tell if you’re driving or not. its kinda nice that it reads me my text messages, but other than that i don’t usually use it.
As for the camera, I just wish it was better in low light situations inside. I can live with it, but having played with my wife’s iPhone 4s, I expected a little more. Its not bad outside.
So overall, i’m very happy with my decision. I probably couldn’t have gone wrong either way, but having a battery that lasts almost 2 days is so much better than going through 2 batteries a day with my old phone. The phone is as fast as i could’ve hoped and I didn’t have to go to far away from vanilla android with the stock Android its running.
I’m more than happy to answer more questions or test stuff on it if you want.
